Lighten your footprint… make it from scratch

Many of us, like Jenny, wonder what we can do on this Earth Day and Every Day to make a difference in the world and keep a better eye on the footprints we leave. Let’s take today and this Make it From Scratch Carnival to celebrate what we’re already doing - to preserve the past, to protect our world, to pass on our traditions. Happy Earth Day!

Start slowly on this peaceful day of connection and natural worship by brewing a cup of tea.

While you’ve got the kiddos occupied with this budget-friendly, super-cute rainy day survival kit, take some time to bust out your crafty-girl supplies and beautify the world with your sweetest dollies. Don’t forget to oogle Nini’s latest treasures!

Once you’re settled in for the day, head over to the kitchen to prepare the freshest-looking vegetable stock base I’ve EVER seen! Use some of that stock in lieu of water in some belly-warming black beans and rice. Don’t forget to whip up some corn bread (high-altitude-style), for your very own MIFS Earth Day celebration!

Focus on what really brings you joy in life - those things that invoke true pleasure and love are often the simplest - and you’ll see how easy it is to be green. Watch your footprints as a child, with wonder, excitement and a sense of possibility.

You are so right! Making things from scratch is such a good way to reduce our burden upon the Earth and I also love the way making something connects me to it–the act of kneading the bread dough, the thought and care that goes into a craft project, the reading-aloud that goes into a poem, story, or blog post. All that positive energy sticks around long after the kneading or crafting or writing is done…

Happy Earth Day!
