    Review of New Quiznos Sammie

Like everyone, I’ve seen a ton of commercials for the new Sammie sandwich. Eager to try one, I ran over to Quiznos to grab one Sammie to supplement my lunch. As the fine gentleman at my neighborhood Quiznos made my Sammie, my excitement was deflated. The flatbread, cheese and meat came pre-packaged. They took it out and thew it under the broiler. Then, 1 measly tablespoon of tomato and lettuce was placed on top. You could easily fit 1/2 cup of shredded lettuce and tomato on there! I walked back to work, grumbling to myself about how I just have to blog this. But then I took a bite of my Bistro Steak Melt.

Wow. This thing tastes pretty good. It does need a lot more veggies and a little more meat, but overall, the Sammie pleased my palate. It certainly isn’t going to fill up anything but the most size -2 of waifs, but it was a nice snack. Not too greasy or salty. Unfortunately, for this quantity of food, it really should only be a $1, like the McDonald’s snack wraps. The big problem here though is really with the flatbread. Each Sammie has between 300 and 400 calories, with more than half of that going to the bread. If there are 50 calorie tortillas bigger than this, then I’m sure the fine chefs at Quiznos can develop a tasty, whole-grain 100 calorie flatbread. When that happens, I’ll go back for another Sammie. Until then, I’ll stick with their tasty salads or other healthy choices.

In canada they make each sammie when you order them, I’m not sure if this is something they’ve changed recently (I’ve been eating them since december 2008) and the places around here give plenty of veggies :)
