How I’ve Formed New Habits
A few months ago I posted on opening yourself to more goodness by getting organized and being more productive. I wanted to update everyone on my progress. (It’s a good thing that follow-through was not on the list, as I never added Parts 2-4 that I had planned.)
Routines: The laundry is done, the floors are mopped, the dishes are clean. I take the time and just get it all done. SimpleGTD has been a great help for home and errands. I use pen & paper GTD for work though.
Punctuality: I’ve been on-time or early to more meetings than ever, and have been so regularly early to work I’ve changed my schedule. This has allowed me to leave work on time almost every day - something I’ve rarely done since starting 3 years ago.
Early Riser: When I moved into the new place, my body clock suddenly changed. Being totally responsible for everything has led me to be up right away every morning.
Birthdays: I’ve sent emails or cards, even made a few phone calls, for every birthday in the past few months. I’m still working on centralizing all the dates into gCal.
Thriftiness: I set a big financial goal for myself earlier this year and with the move, I’ve had to combine saving more with scaling back. I’m still adjusting, but feel that I’m slowly gaining control. The outstanding weight of my house not being sold still stinks, but I’m trying to still pay myself first.
Activity: I’m doing better with exercise, but its still very challenging. With my new work schedule, I’m working on exercising right after work. I’ve been running and swimming and plan to keep up with the diversity of activities.
Overall, all the life changes of late have been very good to me. I’ve embraced the chaos in a way and taken it as an opportunity to reinvent aspects of my lifestyle. I still am working towards greater productivity, but these small strides give me the motivation to keep working and striving for the best in every day.
