Who I Am Reading - August 2007
StarXLR8 is a busy busy gal. I barely have time to read the Cottage Living, Good Housekeeping and Cooking Light magazines that come each month. But somehow, amidst it all, I find the time to keep tabs on 59 51 (I de-cluttered) RSS feeds pretty much daily. This list seems to grow every week, sometimes faster and sometimes slower. Every once in a while I will go on a bent to eliminate (oh-the-horror) some feeds that I just don’t enjoy. So my plan is to provide a brief update on who I am enjoying each month, provide a little link love to the community and hopefully enlightened you, fine reader, with some tasty new reads.
First of all, I will say that a feed reader is an indispensable tool. I love love love it! Unlike the rest of the world, I still use Bloglines. I just find it to be a cleaner, more intuitive experience than Google Reader. If you can convince me why GR is better, then maybe I’ll consider it.
Wow, there are just so many excellent bloggers out there. I want to narrow this to my three most current favorites.
For midwest goodness:
Her Able Hands
Little Blog on the Prairie
Soy is the New Black
For cottage goodness:
One Woman’s Cottage Life
The Cottage Nest
This Vintage Chica
So a question for the blogosphere, particularly you domestic arts (food, home, garden) bloggers and blog-readers, what makes you add a blog to your feed? I love beautiful photos, with some text, yummy recipes, great ideas and a touch of heart and humor.

I add blogs that are funny, have to do with Star Wars or Corporate Communications or Photography, Rolling Stone, and, of course, Dilbert.
I use My Yahoo as my RSS feed reader. I find that it works well since I can also use it for TV listings, daily comics, box scores, and news.

Hey, thanks for the linky love!
I add feeds (I’m still using kinja because I’m too lazy to transfer it all to anything else, and the OPML file won’t work) anyway…I’ll add a feed mostly for quality storytelling. I want to go on a journey with the blogger (short, long, whatever, just take me somewhere with you). Excellent photos. How-to. How not-to. Throw in some self-deprecating humor and I’m smitten.

I’ve had trouble with import/export using an OPML file too! I guess thats not perfected yet.
I’ve realized recently that the how-to pieces really stick with me. Really enjoying “zen habits” for that right now as well.

Thanks for the shoutout …. love the name of your blog!
I use Google Reader, it’s one less password for me to remember. Giggle.

Bloglines never seems to log me out. I keep it in my bookmarks toolbar. But you do have a point, the sheer number of passwords I have to track is beyond ridiculous!
