Simplicity in your Kitchen

It’s Sunday. How many of you went to a delicious buffet today, full of steaming hot variety? I can count at least a few hands. Well, put down your hand if you left that buffet pleasantly full, sated but not stuffed? Yeah, I thought so. You’re not alone, but there is a better way.

Last month I read in no less than three women’s magazines that reducing the number of food types in a meal can help you eat less. Variety may be the spice of life, but it doesn’t do much for your waistline. Sidestepping the buffet for a menu order will save you more calories than you once thought. Even better, cook at home!

Last week I inadvertently tried this theory out. As an admitted Hungry Girl, I am always on the look out for low-cal versions of my favorite comfort foods. Since one recipe for Fettucine Hungry Girlfredo is only 80 calories, I figured I’d might as well make two. This monotony concept really works - I couldn’t eat half of what I made - and normally I would be going back for seconds!

I’ve also read recently that cutting back on your favorite foods, substituting alternatives, can reduce your cravings for the offending item. While potatoes aren’t bad by themselves, we often load those study spuds with a bit too much of - well everything.

How about recipes for ingredients that you can find in any random japanese grocery store (and just for fun, limit yourself to these ingredients… and if you include translations, all the more authentic!)?
